Improvising was very difficult at first for many of the
classically trained musicians. The tentative approach they had begun with lead
to Ristad having them listen to the natural improvisations of everyday life.
The then tried drum talking which freed the participants to being about to
improv on their main instruments.
Key Concepts:
The ability to improv is something that is hard to without
feeling self conscious and not having parts that imitate the world around us or
that of some one else’s improvisation,
when we break free of self consciousness and being ok with imitating others
really helps one get better at it.
Key Words:
Improvisation
Connections:
I use to do improve all the time on the violin, playing
mostly bluegrass music, I was very creative and could do a lot. Since I’ve been
working on classically training my voice I have been feeling more and more self
conscious about improv.
