Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 3 Summary

Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 3 Summary
Chapter Summary: Breath is not simply sticking out our stomach, it should be felt through the back muscles as well. Good posture is essential to make our ribs expand for our breath. We shouldn't view breath as anything we control, but as something we manage. We should do breath exercises so that our breath is more ready to meet the demands of singing. We should practice breathing and singing separately and then see how the coordinate in tone production.
Key Points:
-Good posture=good breath
-"When your ribs expand, you have the greatest mechanical advantages to support phonation.
-Breath control can not be taught until a free flowing tone is mastered.
-You take a breath in but it goes out by itself passively.
Key Terms:
-proprioception
-kinesthesia
Making Connections: My number one struggle in singing is breath! So once again, I am eager to try these exercises out in the practice room tonight! I hope to be better at thinking of breath coming from my sides and my back, not just the front of my body.
