Sarah Boucher Buddy Practice 11/5

Today Jared and I decided to apply some of Smith's inventions. We decided to start with number one - Simply Speaking Simply. As we went through the process we realized a few things. First, "oo" was the only vowel that we felt was entangled when we would speak and sing. We spent a lot of time getting the vowel in the right place. Something that really helped us with that was opening our mouths to an a and simply rounding our lips! It is such a simple concept that we spent a lot of time finding and working on. The other thing that we realized was that we both speak very low. We figure that this contributes to the problems we have singing in the middle range. We both have a pretty good high range but struggle in the middle! So we are going to encourage each other to speak higher, which is hard and it makes a feel condescending but it will be good for us! We next applied this invention to a phrase of each of our pieces. We followed the steps and eventually saw improvement in the phrase-it made us feel less entangled!

Something that I noticed as I practiced on my own later was that my voice felt less entangled overall. As I practiced other pieces my voice just felt happier and more "me", I realized that taking this time to speak and connect with myself really affected the quality of my practice! Starting off right, set the tone for all the different pieces I practiced.

Hooray for buddy practice discoveries!
