Sarah Boucher Buddy Practice 11-12

Today for buddy practice, I suggested that we do some of O. Brown's breathing exercises. Firstly because I struggle with breathing, and secondly because as I was reading, I kind of skimmed over them and I wanted to take the time to really understand them and do them. We started with the breathing one in which you inhale for 10 and then exhale for 10. We weren't really sure what the purpose of this was. I realized that I exhale all the air very quickly, and Jared realized that he had the opposite problem! I think maybe this exercise is to help you manage your breath but I am not sure. We did another one where you sniff in 4 breaths as you walk in place. This one helped me expand my rib cage with each inhale. We also did some posture exercises. We really like laying on the floor for five minutes and I think it helped get my body relaxed and aligned. The only thing was that it made me a little sleepy :). We discussed breathing and what the problems we feel we have. We both feel like our inhalation is good, but we struggle with breath management. We also are struggling to feel the breath through our backs. Should we feel it? I don't quite understand that. I also feel a strange tightness in my chest? Bad?

I hope that we talk more about these exercises in class, cause I am not sure what they are supposed to do or even if we did them right. Help Cindy!
