Chapter 9 Summary- One will not see so-called child prodigies in singing as occasionally as in other instruments. This is because the muscles and technique needed for healthy singing take a long time to develop. In fact, doing too much too soon with regards to singing can have a detrimental effect on a singer. It is very important that singers (especially young singers) are well aware of the limits of their voices so they don't put unnecessary stress and strain on themselves. Practice habits as well as repertoire should be selected with these limitations in mind. On the other hand, it is very important that singers practice consistently and healthily. If healthy practice is not a habit, good technique will either not be maintained or never be achieved in the first place. When we vocalize we should give added (but healthy) attention to the higher register of our voice as this register doesn't get as much use as our normal speaking register.
Key Concept-Doing too much too soon as a singer can put a quick end on an otherwise promising singing career. Practice should be consistent, but healthy by the means of knowing the abilities of your voice and vocalizing in a way that will gradually improve weaker spots in our voice.

Making Connections-I think I need to develop more patience with myself since I am still a very young singer. I also need to realize that some repertoire at this point is just out of reach for me. That doesn't mean I'm a bad singer, it just means I need more time to develop the technique necessary to perform those songs well.
