Chapter Summary: Overuse of the laryngeal muscles can lead to myasthenia laryngis. Singers should often practice lightly and try to space out their practice in shorter segments at a time. Adult and youth voices are similar in many ways but youth voices are not fully developed and can be more easily damaged. Children and young adult's need to be careful to not take on more than their voice can handle. Vocal muscles need to be developed over time for strong singing technique. Singers need to be healthy. Exercising the voice and body daily are key to having a long singing career. Singers also need to listen to their voice and body and not try to push themselves too far.
Key Concept: Singers need to be careful to not overdo and instead build their vocal muscles gradually over time.
Key Terms: myasthenia laryngis, wobble
Making Connections: I need to "listen" to my voice more. I think I often push it too far. I need to back off and practice more lightly and space my practices. I also need to work on being healthier in all aspects which will aid my singing.
