Mariah OB 10

Mariah OB 10
Chapter Summary: Singing needs articulation. If singers do not have good diction, there might as well not be any lyrics. Singing is about communication just as much or even more than just making pretty sounds. Vowel and dipthong exercises can be very beneficial in aiding singers in learning how to articulate well. As singers, we often focus so much on vowels that we forget that the consonants are crucial to good articulation. For all diction, singers need to keep a free, untangled way of singing. As the pitch changes, the color of the vowel will change but it should remain the same vowel. Diction is extremely important in being understood.
Key Concept: Articulation is extremely important in conveying the message of a song.
Key Terms: articulation, vowel formant, unvoiced and voiced consonants, phonemes, vowel triangle, vowel alignment,
Making Connections: I need to remember to work on my consonants as well as the vowels in my singing. The words cannot be understood without clear vowels and consonants.
