Jaron Putnam OB Chapter 4 Summary
Summary: Now that we have discussed posture, breathing, and a person's primal sound. Brown has moved on to the next step. Eliciting Pitch. This, in and of itself, is a very free and easy way to refer to singing. In understanding this concept, a few ideas are important. Bringing forth pitch should be incredible easy and free. If there is any sort of tension at all, it needs to be eliminated. This happens by working to connect the primal sound with pitch. Exercises that are put in the book remind me of what Steven Smith does. Everything starts with making sure you have a primal sound, and then making the transition to pitch, this will ensure a free open sound.
Key Concept: As you elicit pitch, make sure that your tone is easy and free. This happens by connecting pitch to your primal sound. This is most important.
Key Terms: Pitch, Frequency. "Let the airflow do the work"
Making connections: I should never underestimate the importance of exercises that start with using your primal sound and then go to pitch. These exercises are training me to have a free and open sound. I think I need to make a goal to include a few of these basic things everyday as I warm up and sing.
