Jaron Putnam OB Chapter 3 Summary
Summary: This chapter focuses on two fundamental elements of singing. These two elements also happen to be related and are necessary to create a free, healthy sounding tone. These two elements are Posture and Breathing. Both are interconnected and both help in healthy singing. Correct posture is rooted in proper alignment of the lumbar vertebrae. These are the vertebrae most closely associated with the diaphragm. The diaphragm is most used in proper breathing. The diaphragm expands and then the muscles in your back expand to deal with the increased amount of pressure. Exercises were given for both areas to help improve both of these areas in singing.
Key Concept: Posture and Breathing are interconnected. While not apart of "creating tone" both are essential elements to developing a healthy, free, tone.
Key Terms: Lumbar Vertebrae, Diaphragm
Making Connections: These chapters have taught me that I need to do a lot of basic stuff to help improve my singing overall. I have never understood, or paid much attention to posture.. This is something I need to devote a little more time too. I enjoyed the breathing section because I feel Cindy has worked with me on this a lot earlier on in the semester.
