Jaron Putnam OB Chapter 1 Summary

Jaron Putnam OB Chapter 1 Summary

Summary: This chapter is all about primal sound. Oren Brown defines this as the absolute most important thing that a singer can find. The primal sound of an adult doesn't come from speaking. Speaking is a manmade invention. Our primal sound exists through something more animal-like than speaking. We can discover our primal sound by attaching an emotion to a sound. Like crying or laughing. When we discover our primal sound everything changes in our singing. It becomes emotionally stimulating, and we will be able to have a much more powerful performance that can connect to the audience.

Key Concept: Your Primal Sound is everything. "First, and foremost, find your primal sound."

Key Terms: Primal Sound, "Think! Let! Pray! Trust!"

Making Connections: I feel like I need to spend more time on the basic exercises that he has given. I've thought of these exercises in the past as ways to help free up the sound, but I underestimated their importance in connecting to the primal sound.
