Emily F. Tali P. lesson plan for 1/13

Emily F. Tali P. lesson plan for 1/13: Talia is a young lady I know from church. She is 18, plays the piano, is a great student and a sweet girl. She expressed interest in taking voice lessons from me several months ago and offered to pay, so I know she really wants to learn to sing better. I know a few things about her, but for her lesson on Monday, I will take the time to understand her goals and background in singing. I've heard her sing in group settings and she seems to have a solid grasp on fundamentals of singing and good musicianship. I haven't heard her sing solo before. I will listen to her sing a piece of her choosing after we talk. Because Talia has never had voice lessons as far as I know, I plan to spend a little time working on simple exercises, probably from the Oren Brown book, that she can practice. Long-term goal: exposure to good vocal hygiene and technique. This goal may change after we talk and I hear her sing. Short-term goals: establish a practice routine, and choose a piece to work on. Because I don't know where she is yet, I'm not sure about these goals either. To help her with a practice routine I'll suggest ways of practicing simple vocalizes and demonstrate some vocalizes that she can do at home. For a piece to work on, it might be fun for her to try singing in another language. She's a bright girl and that might be a fun challenge for her.
