Jared D McCoy Chp 3

1. What are the two fundamental types of resonance that occur in the human body?
-The two types of resonance that occur are Free and Forced.

2.Why are the chest and head not good resonators for the projection of sound?
-Your chest and head are not good resonators because they are covered in muscle. Muscle and flesh dampen vibrations.

3.What are the four traits common to all Musical instruments, including the voice?
- The four traits common to all musical instruments are having a power source, vibrator, resonator, and articulator.

4. Why is the vocal tract considered to be a quarter-wave resonator?
-The vocal tract is a closed and open tube. Frequencies with a quarter-wavelength equal to the length of the vocal tract are the first to be resonated.

5. What is the relationship between the harmonic series and the resonance series of a quarter wave system?
- The resonance series only contains the odd numbered harmonics.

6.Define musical resonance
- Musical resonance can be defined as the intensification and enriching of a musical tone by supplementary vibration.

7.What anatomical structures function as free resonators in the human voice?
-The free resonators in the human voice are the trachea, the laryngopharynx, oropharynx, the oral cavity, the nasopharynx, and the nasal cavity.
