Plans:
- I want to spend a little less time on stretching, but I do want to reiterate the importance of keeping a strong singer’s stance with Amanda. She tends to get a little “lazy” in the lower back and shoulders, rather than tense. I also want to work a little more on being a little more active/energetic in her singing because I think she’s hypo-functional (or hyper-functional and just taking my relaxation exercises wayyy too seriously). I may have her jump up and down a couple of times, shake her limbs a bit, etc. I want to definitely work more on the “shhh” and released breathing.
- For her vocalizes, I want to continue with the yawning exercises and work a little more on the “mmm” chew sequences and get her to engage the cheek bones/mask area a little more. I’m also going to do the “li le la lo lu” exercises and change the 54321 scale a little to 53421 because that got her to pay more attention and resulted in more concentrated energy.
- For her piece, I’m going to try and use motion words to describe what I want her to the stylistically and technically for the piece and use hand gestures that she can do as well to encourage more energy/engagement.
Goals:
- Short:
- I would like to make her breathing less erratic; she tends to breathe in a shallow manner and with lots of extraneous movement.
- More physical engagement (i.e. the face and breath) to give her singing more energy.
- Long:
- I’m changing my long term goal; I would like for her to become more “attached” to what she’s singing. It seems that she lacks emotional connection to the music, and I hope to encourage her musical sense to give her more interpretational freedom.
