This week, I want to help Gavin improve his onset, specifically bring weight up with a scoop on the first note.
9:30-9:40 --> I want to review the posture and breathing exercises that we did last week (which were the laying on the floor and focusing on the lower back expanding.) This week I want to also show him the leaning over the chair exercise that was so successful last week with my other student.
9:40-9:50 --> This will be the time for vocalizes that assist his onset. I'm just going to list a butt load of ideas, so I won't get stuck:
- "bap bap bap bap bap" exercise on a downward 5 note scale. I could also try p or m, because they both start with closed lips.
- 5 note downward scale with a silent h at the beginning
- Sing a 6 note downward scale starting on the 6th scale degree, and then try the same scale again with the 6th scale degree silent.
- Trigger a yawn sound, and then try anyone of these exercises (to keep the larynx down at the beginning of the exercise)
9:50-10:00 --> Work on one of his songs, reminding him of what we learned during the exercises.
