Taylee - Lesson Summary 10/25

One of the things I learned in this lesson, didn't have much to do with singing necessarily. I honestly consider Brianna to be a good friend, and I hope to be like that with my students. It helps that she has gone through the school experience recently, but she is very understanding of the demands that are a part of our lives. There is a lot more to being a good teacher than having good technique and I was definitely reminded of that at this lesson.

After my lesson from the week before that was pure awesome, it was a little bit of a downer to go to this lesson and have a not awesome attempt at singing. What comes up must come down I guess, and I'm a bound to have terrible lesson days, just like I'm guaranteed to have amazing break through days. I didn't find the same sensations in my body as I did the week before. I was very tense, and it was probably a result of a mind cycle: I was trying to make myself sing well, which made me sound and feel worse, so I kept trying to control myself that much more.

Two things I learned from this week: there is a lot more to being a singer and/or teacher than you'd think, and singing is a hardcore "brain over brawn" "mind over matter" workout.

I am seeing some improvements in myself. I am more quick to find correct resonance and placement of my voice in my body. I am also recognizing things on my own more often without needing Brianna to point them out to me first.
