Sarah Boucher Lesson Summary 11/9

This weeks lesson was great! I passed off a song that I didn't get last week, hooray for second chances! Then we worked on that piece for a bit. Laurie noticed that I have a lot of extraneous jaw movement on this piece because it is so wordy and so fast! I was happy because all I had to do was focus on dropping the jaw more and feeling numb! It completely refreshed and released my sound and I actually enjoyed singing the song for the first time. We also talked about the breathing and utilizing the character to make the breath more useful. The piece is very fiery and sassy, thinking of my inhalation in that way really helped me to make my breath count.

After that Laurie demonstrated that sometimes a voice teacher has to be your therapist! She and I just talked through some problems I have been having with my opera scene. I have not felt secure in it and we sang through it and discussed what I can do to improve it in the short amount of time I have. It was helpful to have someone to talk to about it! I just love her that is all :)

Next week, we are going to go through three of my songs and then the other four the next week. It is crazy that we only have two lessons left of the semester!!!
