Shalayna G. NV 13

Chapter summary: Singing is a lifestyle that needs to be kept healthy and balanced. We must keep the body hydrated so that our vocal folds can be lubricated and healthy. Hydration takes time. We can monitor our hydration by the color of our urine. Some dangers to vocal heath include, prenodular swelling, whispering, coughing, and smoking. A balance and nutritious diet and exercise routine is important to a singers lifestyle. In addition, physical appearance also takes importance in a professional singing career. “We should pursue a balance between appearance and ability to communicate with the voice.” We must be careful how we use everyday voice as well as singing our voice to prevent vocal nodules and polyps.  Confidence and humility are also part of a healthy lifestyle, which is a life long process.
Key Concept: Our voices and bodies have an equal importance. We must keep them both balanced and healthy.
Key Terms: nodules, polyps, confidence and humility, hydration, prenodular swelling,

Connection: This chapter was very informative. Moving from New York City to Utah I experienced a hard time with breathing, especially with singing. I notice that my mouth would often get dry and it required a lot more energy to sing. I can admit that I drink a lot more water since I’ve been living in Utah.
