Sarah Brenay - VRH - 11/14/13

Facial expression is really good! There is still some movement in the body that I don't think is helping you, but I'd say it's getting better as you grow more comfortable with the piece. You look so pretty! Great job with the text and rhythm! Debussy is a beast. And cool ending! Look at you joining us below the staff. ; )

Alignment needs more... alignment. The neck is jutting forward as well. There's definitely something up here, I think that the vocal cords are not fully adducted, or else they are not healthily adducted. I believe the problem lies in the larynx riding up. Here is another example of the laryngal wedgie at work. She was very consistent and well prepared. She confided in me that this was her first time soloing in front of people, so props for appearing to be calm!

"H" is releasing a whole lot of air. Really nice tone when focused, but the air is being spent unwisely throughout the phrase and isn't there when she needs it. The words at the end of phrases are completely dropping off the map - lack of breath and I think some kind of artistic choice (wrong choice). Shoulders are very slumped, the chest is almost concave.

I think that the pitches at the beginning are not reaching the audience the way you are hearing them in your head. The tone is very spread and incoherent in the first low phrases. I'm not certain why that is. You may just need more chiaro/speech in your voice there. Good work with what sounds like an incredibly tricky song! Now add some animation in the face and show us the love.
