Sarah Brenay - Masterclass 11/5/13

Brad
I definitely wanted more line from Brad, his singing was very segmented/choppy. I like that he has the confidence to be independent of the piano, but it's still important to know the accompaniment and groove with it. His facial expression looks really good, very energetic and bright, but a lot of blinking too. When Cindy helped him add meaning and movement to the piece, it fixed a lot of voice problems and was a lot more entertaining.
Luke
I want to point out that Luke fixed his leaning back issue and looked wonderful! A very strong, grounded stance, excellent work bro! The [a] [o] and [u] vowels are nice and released, but I'm seeing some holding in the jaw on [i] and [I]. Try to get all vowels to have the same release and mouth shape (only lips and tongue should move, and the tongue should not move much.) Such great expression in this piece! So awesome. When you started making the character switches more obvious I got a lot more meaning out of the piece. You are on the right track! Excellent work!
Sam
There's some sliding up into pitches. To fix this in my pieces, Cindy had me sing them on a short, stacatto [ba]. This forces you to get to the pitch without time to adjust or slide into it. When the [ba]s are precise, the singing will be. Ask me to show you what I mean if this isn't clear, because it's a great exercise and it works!
