I had an awesome lesson today! I'm getting really excited about my pieces, I'm even excited for juries!
First we did some warm ups. I wanted to go through the inventions from The Naked Voice to make sure I'm doing them right. For every invention, Cindy had a variation for me that worked better with my voice which was totally awesome. Then we sang through my Beach songs. I love them! The first one went really well and Cindy said it sounded very authentic, which was a relief because I've been working really hard on that. I always start with simply speaking when I practice it and it's made a big difference. It's actually a lot easier to sing this way! Then we went through the other two which didn't go quite as well. I'm having some entanglement on the word love (a reflection of inner turmoil no doubt) and with the high notes. We used the [ba] technique to get my voice moving more freely and consistently and that helped a lot. My plan this week is to do those songs on [ba] for a few days until I feel confident enough to switch back to simply speaking, and from thence to singing like a normal person.
Such a fun lesson! And I was sick too. Who'd have thunk.
