Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 7 Summary

Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 7 Summary
Chapter Summary: Agility is essential to every singer's growth. It helps us release tension because we can not sing coloratura with tension. Singing coloratura will help with all aspects of our singing. It also conditions our minds to think pitch instead and letting it happen. We should start slowly and move to more complicated exercises. It takes time to build up agility but it is worth it.
Key Points:
-Singers must train their muscles just like athletes
-Coloratura is so valuable because "the voice moves from note to note quickly, activating new muscle fibers and releasing others. This allows for an exchange of oxygen without a buildup of fatigue.
-Vocal folds respond just by thinking pitch
Key Terms:
-Activation Threshold
Making Connections: I am guilty...I had coloratura...and I never do exercises that help me with that. I avoid it at all costs. Now I realize how detrimental that is to my growth as a singer. I feel sufficiently shamed and will strive to make myself do it. I just need to start small and build slowly! I can do it!
