Mariah VRH 11/14
Hannah Lovato: Hannah had nice free flowing air and a vibrant timbre. Going into her first high note was a little disconnected. Her expression was nice and she seemed relaxed. There was one section in the middle (I'm not sure what the words were) where she went more nasally than the rest of the piece. Overall, it was very lovely but she could go even further and add more dynamics and be more specific with the message of the song.
Aubrey Robbins: She seemed a little jittery in the introduction of her name. She tended to grab her leg with her right hand. Aubrey had a fluttering timbre. On her [i] vowels, she could open her mouth more. I think she could relax her mouth and jaw; they seemed a little tight and forced. She had a great crescendo on the word "tizi". Her breathing was fast and shallow but it got better in the middle. She has a great voice, but for this song she could relax and have more free-flowing air.
Minjin Yeom: Minjin had a light timbre and a nice, calm expression. She had some bucket breathing and a lack of free-flowing air. She was a little tight on her high note but she was almost there. For her diction, I could understand every word but some of vowels were a little askew. She could work to round out those vowels. On the word "true," she had more of a shwa sound than an oo. On the words "have" and "always," she could make the "a" vowels taller. Overall, it was a cute performance and she could work to free up that voice more.
Aubrianne Dunn: Aubrianne had great expression and a good emphasis on the word "bloody." She tended to fiddle with her fingers and swing her left arm. She started a little suddenly, but maybe I just wasn't prepared for it. On the words "without you," when it goes higher she went a little tight. She could drop her jaw and open her mouth more on each time she says the word "you." Her mouth seemed to close off for that word. Her lower range is especially rich.
Caitlin Craig: Caitlin had a light and breathy timbre for this song that went tight at times. Her breathing was like a bucket. She could take fuller breaths and have more free-flowing air. The intonation was a tad off on some higher pitches and went tight. Her expression is always great and her performance was interesting to watch. Overall, I think she could drop her jaw and open that mouth more and trust the air to do the work.
