Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 5 Summary

Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 5 Summary
Chapter Summary: It is important that as singers we recognize the full potential of our range. We all possess different registers to our voice. Brown classifies the different registers into 4 different groups. Register 1 is our low notes, where we need more airflow and less pressure to produce notes. Next is Register 2, where most of us speak. Then is Register 3 is where we enter a more falsetto range. Register 4 is more of a flute range. Brown says that although we may not be a coloratura we all can access these notes, as long as we do it without pushing. If we exercise our voice appropriately we will be more capable of register adjustment, bridging the gap between the registers of our voice making it more fluid.
Key Points:
-As we strength our range, it will be beneficial for all of our vocal registers.
-We should develop our voices stage by stage and be patient so that we have a good technical foundation.
-When exploring the different registers of the voice it is helpful to start with Register two because it is closest to our speaking voice.
Key Terms:
-Register adjustment
Making Connections: I often feel as if I don't have a middle range in my voice. I think this is because I normally speak rather low. I want to develop my second and third registers more and I think the key will be to speak high. I liked hearing about the differences in the ranges and want to utilize Brown's examples to help me find more continuity in my voice.
