Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 1 Summary

Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 1 Summary
Chapter Summary: It is important for us to reconnect with our primal sound. Our primal sound is the sounds we make involuntarily, sounds that we do not have to think to produce. Making primal sounds helps us to "bring a natural function into a willed action." (6) We should strive to speak in connection with our primal sounds. If we utilize primal sounds, we will better be able to communicate as a singer.
Key Points:
-"Primal sounds are key for the thinker in you to reach your audience as a speaker."
-Do we utilize our primal sound in our speech?
-"All the vocal qualities you were born with are there, ready to use, if you can only find the key to unlock them."
-Our voices are as unique as our faces!
Key Terms:
-Primal Sound
-Reflexive Sound
-Voluntary Production of sound
Making Connections: I have been experimenting a lot lately with my speaking voice and primal sounds. I realize that I speak a lot lower than my natural primal sounds are. My laugh is particularly high but I speak very low. I hope to apply Brown's advice and really utilize my primal sounds, first to get my speech in the right place and then to apply it to singing.
