Mariah VRH 11/7
Amber Farrow: Amber's timbre was clear, light and a little piercing. It was a pure tone but seemed very tight. Her intonation went a little flat at times, maybe because of a lack of free-flowing air. Her breathing was good but she could slow down and fill up more. She seemed pretty tight and nervous throughout and her voice was not as full as it could be because of that. She could drop her jaw more, especially on the word "music." Her diction was not very clear. Once she relaxes her jaw and opens her mouth more, I think the sound will carry a lot better.
Sarah Gee: Sarah had a fluttering, rich timbre and good intonation. She could emphasize her consonants more in this song and maybe fill up more on her breaths. Her introduction of her name and piece was a little quiet so she could carry that more. She could drop her jaw and open her mouth a lot more. Her o and ah vowels were good but on her [i] and [I] vowels she especially needs to drop that jaw. Also, I think it would have been a little more formal if she hadn't worn her jacket, but I understand because it's always so cold in that room. Overall, she had a great timbre; it was more full and rich than in the past. She just needs to open that mouth more and let that great sound flow out.
Aubrianne Dunn: Aubrianne had a light timbre and shallow breathing that seemed to stop in between phrases. She went a little flat on her higher notes but overall her intonation was good. She could use more diction and expression. Her higher notes were constricted and she could use more free-flowing air. She seemed to be very nervous and tended to grab at her dress. I was glad she didn't get upset when she forgot the words and just kept going. Overall, she has a great voice, she just needs to be more confident with it and not give up on the expression at the end.
Kaylee Ann Simmons: Kaylee Ann had a light, clear timbre and great expression for this song. Her diction wasn't bad but she could add even more. Her breathing was low but shallow. Her intonation was good. Her expression was very lively which was nice but she moved around a lot because of this. She could sustain her gestures a little longer so it's less busy. Overall, it was a very fun performance but she could loosen up a bit and open her mouth more.
Shalayna Guisao: Shalayna has a very rich, full and free timbre. Her intonation was great and she had good diction. She did great at dropping her jaw and letting her mouth hang open. She could drop her jaw a little more on her [i] vowels. Her breathing was low while singing but went high in the breaks but I'm not sure if that's all that bad. Her expression was good but she could be more specific and carry it through to the end. She also seemed a little nervous but doesn't need to be because she has a great voice.
