Chapter Summary: Agility is being able to move your voice around quickly, especially for songs with coloratura passages. We have to train our voices to be able to perform this, just like athletes have to train their muscles. Learning coloratura is beneficial to learning that flexibility needed in the voice. In the past, all singers were expected to learn coloratura and benefited from it. It is almost impossible to sing coloratura with any kind of tension. The singer needs to think and let. To increase agility, the singer needs to practice each day and slowly stretch their capabilities.
Key Concepts: Agility is learned when the singer releases tension and works daily to slowly improve their flexibility in singing.
Key Terms: agility, activation threshold, trill
Making Connections: I would love to learn how to sing coloratura. I need to work on these exercises Oren Brown has in this book and work daily to stretch my range and sing quickly.
