Mariah OB 4
Chapter Summary: To create a free sound, singers need to give up control and not try to force the outcome. Singers should not force anything to happen, but just let and release the sound. When we are sliding our voice up the scale, it should be like we are bouncing on the lowest note which propels us back to a lighter high range. Primal sounds are free and open but we must also shape them into vowels to create language. Singers should have continual air flow and give up the control to the flow of air to help create free singing. When a singer has found their primal sound, they need to practice shaping this into free singing.
Key Concept: Singers need to give up control and allow their air to flow through and primal sound to remain true.
Key Terms: activator, vibrator, glottis, vocal fry, coupe de glotte
Making Connections: I need to focus more on having consistent air flow and not forcing any bursts of breath for higher notes. I need to become more familiar with my primal sound and learn how to integrate it into my singing.
