Chapter Summary: Primal sound is the involuntary, naturally occurring phonation you that make. They are the sounds we were born with and most naturally occur when we're not thinking about it or trying to manipulate a certain kind of sound. Finding your primal sound and just letting it out connects you to your true voice and will help condition your brain to naturally use that sound in speaking, singing, anything to do with phonation. I loved how he said that learning to sing is like learning to juggle and we start with one thing, then add another and another, but we can't skip any steps or the outcome is defeated. We have to start here with our primal sound and get connected before we can really move on from there.
Key Concept: Primal sound is the key for the artist and thinker in your to communicate as a singer and speaker. Primal sound is essential for your overall vocal health.
Key Terms: Primal Sound
Making Connections: As I did the primal sound exercises I found a strong connection with my voice that I've been able to feel at fleeting moments in my singing but never with any degree of consistency. I remember how it feels when I'm connected to my primal sound because I've been there before but I need to strive more toward my primal sound. I notice when I speak I don't always speak in my primal sound but I modify my voice to the people I'm speaking with. I never noticed that about myself until recently... I speak lower and off my voice with certain people and with other people I speak too softly and off my voice. I need to speak with my primal sound ALWAYS.
