Laura B DYV chap. 1

Laura B
Chapter Summary: Every person has their own personal primal sound. Tapping into this is key to healthy singing and speaking. We are able to find our primal sounds through making the sounds that our body naturally and involuntarily makes when surprised, laughing, crying, sighing, and so forth. The best singers are those who are connected to their primal sound and are thus able to more fully express the meaning in the music.
Key Concept: Go back to the basics and connect with your primal sound.
Key Terms: Primal Sound, reflexive sound, voluntary production of sound, imitation
Making Connections: While singing, I have felt myself try to make my voice into something that maybe it is not. I need to follow the author's advise and make sure that I am really connected with my primal sound before I try to do anything that I might not be able to do at this time with my voice.
