Jaron Putnam Voice Recital Hour Notes November 7th 2013

Amber Farrow- Pretty sound. Nice piece. Your voice fits it well. I could feel the sorrow in your performance. Cool. Musically… I would like to see more "speech" in the singing. It was very much like you were singing notes on a page. Get out of that mindset and sing with feeling and meaning. Practice speaking the poetry dramatically! I feel like this would help your performance. I wanted more of a pause at the transition from the major section back to the minor section. Make more of a moment out of that.

Kara Wight- Nice voice. You have a natural sound to your voice. I think it sounds a little unsupported. I would work on keeping your diaphragm engaged all throughout the process of singing. I see deep breaths. More at the beginning. Less as the song went on. You take a deep breath and then let all of the support and expansion go. Keep it engaged! I think this will help give your sound depth that it needs to really be something special.

Aubrey Robbins- Beautiful Song. You sing throughout your voice in a relatively easy way. The sound is a little bit pressed. It sounds easy enough, but the sound is tightening as you get higher. I think this is a case where you are engaging muscles that don't need to be engaged. Work on keeping your throat open, and your nasal pharynx open. This will free up the sound and keep things more resonant and easier to sing.
