Emily F. OB 7: Agility is essential for classical singing, and requires freedom and flexibility and strength. We need to train for singing just as athletes do for their sports. Practicing agility may take years to develop into skilled coloratura.
Key terms: agility, coloratura, trill
Making connections: I just made a decision on a song today that will require some difficult passages of me. I'm looking forward to it, because I haven't done anything like it in a solo before. I recognize that in order to do this kind of singing I will need to have a lot more release in my jaw, and lots of free-flowing air. I won't be able to "hold on" to anything in my voice to "make" these runs happen. It will be a new challenge for me! The exercises associated with this chapter were challenging. Some of them I've done with Laurie before, but not with great accuracy.
