Emily C.: Joint Practice, 11/11/13

Emily C.: Joint Practice, 11/11/13

Since we have our Opera Productions performance this week, Shalayna and I decided that we’d go over our memorization on some of the tougher pieces of the program. “Weekend in the Country” has a section in it where everyone gets some of the lyrics mixed up, so to help ourselves remember, we decided to use action (actually acting out what we’re saying--almost to a ridiculous extent) and mental images to makes remembering the words smoother. For example, in the lines “surveying each other while playing croquet, controlling our feelings while strolling the lawns, and confiding our motives while hiding our yawns,” we thought of croquet being played on the lawns but it got boring so we started yawning. We did that for other difficult parts in the piece to make sure we were really solidified on our memorization.
