Summary: Agility in the voice is a key indicator of overall vocal health and longevity of your future career. As singers, we train our muscles, just as athletes do, to have certain kinesthetic responses that give us exactly what sound we want. Coloratura is another word for agility in the voice, and it is a good skill to develop because of its necessity of a free and open throat; the notes change so quickly that muscles do not have time to grab. So therefore, the harder we try, the less it will work. We have to use only our minds to determine pitch and let the intricate muscle system do its work on its own. Proper coloratura bears in mind that each and every pitch has it's own color and register adjustment. The same advice that applies to coloratura also applies to learning to trill.

Making Connections: It's been interesting to go through the CD of exercises for each chapter, because when I do, it seems that I'm reading Cindy's book, not Oren's book! It's very obvious where she got a lot of her great ideas. I haven't practiced these wobbly type flexibility exercises in while, and it might be time to try them again...
