Elizabeth Tait Masterclass 11.14.13

Hannah Lovato
I loved your eyes at the beginning, so engaging.  I think they would be enhanced if you lips stayed relzxed.  I want more line, your approach sounds note-by-note right now.  Your tone is so good, but I don't feel that legato technique is being sustained between notes.  Perhaps using a thought of pulling taffy, and it also might be a jaw closure issue.  You have expression in your face, but it's not specific enough to be effective.  But so much improvement Hannah!

I appreciated the confident introduction.  I sensed an inside smile, awesome!  I would practice videoing yourself performing and noticing extraneous movement of neck and head.  It's a bad extramusical habit.  Good rolled r's, very tastefully done.  But be careful to differentiate between rolled and tripped r's.  You have awesome space, but you lose it when you descend in pitch.  Your eyes are quite blank, and I don't sense any specificity in characterization.  Your hands were a bit pressed to your side, you should be upright but with relaxed but energized hands.  Make sure that your tone is fully formed upon inception (including vibrato) on every note

Remember to include the name of the composer in the introduction of your piece.  I think you need more space, both in molars and mouth.  But perhaps that step would come later after finding more focus in the sound, then open it up.  You have a nice buoyant feeling to the voice that can definitely be enhanced.  Posture could use some pulling up by the ears.

I love your expression because it's specific, but it goes away when technical difficulties arise.  Your larynx sounds like it's coming up so much on high notes.  I think you need some hyper awareness for a while on that subject.
