Caitlin Craig VRH 11/14/13

Sam Meredith: Sam seemed to set a tempo, but I could tell Ali was struggling to keep up.  Sam was trying to keep his set tempo consistent, but I think the lack of togetherness made him nervous.  I saw him squeezing his back muscles and holding his breath, which didn't promote free-flowing air.  I saw fear in his eyes.  I know that he feels confident about this song in the practice room, I just want to see that confidence in her performance.

Brooke Myers: Overall there were some diction problems.  "Auf"sounded like "off".  There needs to be more of a consistency in the closed vowels, this will help the german sound more authentic.  This doesn't mean that we close the jaw; the space in the upper jaw needs to remain.  There was a sharp sound in her timbre at times when she was descending, I'm not sure what the cause of this was.  Maybe tongue tension?

Sarah Lowe: Batti batti is a great song choice for her voice.  I think there could have been even more characterization.  Zerlina is the world's biggest flirt.  I think because of the naivety and frivolous nature of her character it would be appropriate to have some hand gestures.  This might aid the flow and contour in the vocal line.  While her fluid passages seemed fairly released, I think this specificity in characterization would help them to be even more released.  I'm not sure, however, if she was maintaining an open throat throughout those entire passages.  Remember that when you see something, we can hear it in your voice.

Amanda Skousen: There needed to be a sense of more free-flowing air.  The tongue and the jaw weren't separated.  Releasing this tension would make her voice more free.
