Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 8 Summary
Chapter Summary: We should strive to have a voice with carrying power not power. All our voices are different and have different levels of power. Even small voices can develop a concentrated tone that can carry over an orchestra. We should never try to make our voices powerful, as we grow and develop our voice it will come on its own. Nasal resonance is also something that will come with time and training that should never be manufactured.
Key Points:
-The size of your voice is given to you at birth, but you can develop a carrying quality.
-Resonance depends on the size, shape and substance of the resonator.
-We can not rely on the our own ears
-There must be room and freedom for resonance to occur
-We can not place resonance
-Concentrated tone NOT power
-The term power is different for all voices
Key Terms:
-Power
-nasal resonance
-Singers formant
-resonance
-carrying quality
Making Connections: I really need to stop trying to manufacture resonance. I need to think more in terms of creating the space and having freedom than trying to produce resonance. Like Stephen Smith said "Resonance is passive!"
