Meikin:When she first sang through the song, her breath was high and gaspy and her body was not very grounded. Her chest was collapsed and her chin was far forward. I liked her energy and she seems to have a nice chiaro to her voice. After discussing what her intentions were, the piece had more energy. I liked what Cindy said about how in performing the outcome doesn't matter, it is more important to have the intent.
Liz: I always love how clear Liz's diction is. Her tone is very bright and spinning. I noticed some extraneous jaw movement particularly in her "la,la,la's" She also moves her shoulders up and down a lot. She shouldn't be scared of those high notes - She totally has them!!! First Cindy had her sing it "without her shoulders" telling her not to worry about anything else being right, just not using her shoulders. She can totally get those notes she just has to relax and not give up if it doesn't sound like was she wants at first! (Easier said then done, I know :) )
Allen: Allen had a nice tone in his voice, his chiaro was especially nice because it was the right level of brightness. I think he could open his mouth more to create more space for his sound to ring. It would give his voice more dimension and richness. His body was fairly straight and steady throughout which made him very grounded. Allen talked about his fear of high notes, so Cindy took him from a place that he felt secure and just kept transposing it up. This was very successful, he kept the freedom that he had in the original key all the way up.
Shalayna: Shalayna has a lovely Chiaroscuro in her voice, it is very well balanced. I enjoyed listening to her sing this but I would have love for her to have given more character wise. Something I noticed that was a nervous habit was that she rubs her hands together when she sings. Her body was otherwise so centered and peaceful so it was distracting to have her hands moving like that. Having Shalayna use a primal "Uh" before she sang, helped to smooth out the piece more. When she thought about the vocal folds together with everything else soft, there was also more fluidity in the line.
