Sarah Boucher Lesson Summary 11/15

I wasn't feeling 100% for my lesson, I had the beginnings of a sore throat. I came not expecting to accomplish much but Laurie got me to a really good place! We warmed up and focused on really light singing. I focused on keeping my larynx low and the air flowing. I actually felt really good after that! We did a lot of top down exercises and downward sighs. Next we worked on Silent Noon. I started to sing and Laurie immediately said 'No I don't believe you!' I was a bit taken back by this. She had me speak the text poetically and then she said, 'Did you sing it like that?'. We went through it phrase by phrase speaking it poetically and then singing. I was amazed that, just saying it poetically completely altered my tone! It went from being very entangled to being very free and be light. The breath also felt easier and more natural! I loved it and I was thinking more about the words and the expression! It became more authentic! We only did a 30 minute lesson so that we could do another 30 minutes on dead week.

My biggest take away is to speak all my pieces poetically and find that authenticity! Be Authentic is my motto this week!
