My lesson on Thursday went alright. I came prepared to sing through all of my rep except for the one french piece I have. In my practice I had been working on maintaining clean onsets, as well as releasing my jaw and the space between my molars.
I had many successful clean onsets during my warm-ups, and felt a real release in my breath and body.
I am struggling with my french on my Viardot piece. So we worked on that, and I realized how much I had to work on. I have been overwhelmed with my Wolf rep insomuch that I had neglected my french (which is the language that I'm the worst at). Go, me!
This was also the last lesson for the remainder of the semester, because Brianna is having her baby next week, so I was really disappointed in myself. It has been a real stretch to learn all this music, and I'm sad that I failed to do it all.
My goals for the remainder of the semester are to continue working on the wolf pieces, and Laurie's song while maintaining a low laryngeal position, and the "drinking the glass" stretch in my upper jaw, so that I can do well on my jury, and sing with real release! I want to prove to myself that I'm trying my best, and that I still have improved and learned a lot this semester.
During the Christmas break I will be attacking my two other french pieces, and hopefully one other song. I hope to come back spring semester with these memorized, so I can get the remainder of the music learned in preparation for my recital in April.
