"a healthy singer is a healthy human being" Hydrate your body. This helps your body to keep your vocal chords moist and lubricated. It is better to drink water throughout the day instead of a whole bunch at once. Lots of singers use steam to help keep their vocal folds but this technique does not help produce the mucus that the vocal chords need. Don't put undue pressure on your vocal chords. Constant talking can do this to a person. And for goodness sakes don't smoke! Diet and exercise help our bodies and instruments as well When a singer gets sick this is when techniques become vital. I know for myself that I usually want to push through when i get sick but that is really bad for the voice. If we want to be professional singers we have to understand the life we will lead. It is a lot of traveling and hard to have a family. Some love this life others need family and that support. As a singer you just have to find out which one you are.
