Bric Slade Discover Your Voice: Chapter 3
Posture effects your voice by effecting your breathing. The
sixth sense is proprioception, which is essentially the “sense of self”.
Breathing is one of the main parts of singing. Releasing of the air should be
passive. Good breathing is relaxing the
inspiratory muscles for expiration and relaxing the expiratory muscles for
inspiration. Allowing the air to flow freely from the lungs reduces subglottal
pressure which is bad for healthy singing.
Key Concepts: Posture has a direct correlation with your
ability to breathe properly. Breathing properly means relaxing inspiratory
muscles for expiration and the opposite for inspiration.
Key Terms: Proprioception
Making Connections: I have found more and more the
importance of relaxation in breathing and what that really means for us. It is
simply another example of "letting things happen."
