Amber's master class notes 11-5-2013

Master class 11-5-2013

Brad
It's a nice mellow and resonant baritone. After a bit of torment over unconscious movement from side to side, he got some expression work today. The cool things about arias of this nature is that there is a little more freedo to take advantage of movement to help the story along.
Brad tried a few times trying different approaches to find a good fit. The key was to decide which movements were most necessary for his interpretation.
It was really cool to hear his voice sound better each time he had something to distract him.

Luke
He was light, smooth, sensitive and engaging.
He was really frustrated because he felt like the transition between the two characters in his song just wasn't working for him. It was awesome to see how much everyone wanted to help him and there was a lot of really good feedback from the class.
He seemed a bit more comfortable after many more tries.
*An interesting point was made that sometimes it takes an open exaggeration of the vowel to get the right effect of vibrancy even in a Broadway song.

Sam
WOW! what a major change! So much more released.
There is this kind of edge, or intensity to his sound that I really like.
Cindy let us in on what he has been doing to help. It was that exercise where you lay on the floor with the knees bent and the head propped up slightly for a minimum of seventeen minutes. This is supposed to help the spine to get to a more natural position for release.
