Taylee - VRH 10/03/13

Emily Hess:
B: silent, but didn't really settle in her as a good grounding.
I: creates the necessary space for high pitches as she ascending, instead of already having the space and dropping into the sound.
T: Ringing, but didn't seem very full, kind or airy.
D: American, but I'm assuming she hasn't had diction class yet.
E: Could take some time to really get to know the text and what it really means.
O: Use the piano intro to build your character. Lots of movement that wasn't conducive to performance. I feel like I had a lot of negative things to say. So, I want to end by saying that she has a wonderful positive energy. It is present regardless of the emotion she is trying to convey. So even though there are things to work on, she makes me happy that I sing, and that she was singing for us. 2ND time, tone filled out more, and she sounded much more resonant!
Kayelee Farris:
B: she seemed to wait till the last second to breath, instead of using the whole break in between singing.
I: I'm not really sure how to describe it, it was accurate, but the pitch didn't seem to serve a purpose other than accuracy.
T: Focosed, (lost some focus when she got nervous, but that obviously going to happen.)
D: the tone seemed very rounded, so her vowels sounded really good
E: Wasn't really getting much as far as what the piece meant to her.
O: Her performance seemed to be more on the impressive side, instead of on the inspire side of things. There was a lot less tension in her the second time, even with the small goof.
Jared Daley:
B: Way to take advantage of long breaks to breath deeply
I: have a tonal center, 1st line seemed like he 2nd guessed himself
T:
D: Understood what he was saying very well!
E: could have used more for me, what did the words mean to him?
O: He mentioned that he tended to rush because it was slower, but I didn't really see that happen. 2ND time, much more confident sound, fuller and more on purpose, still a look of deer in the headlights though, what does song mean to you?
Elizabeth Tait:
B: gaspy
I: very pleasing (as usual)
T: full. very resonant.
D: very crisp and clean
E: I really liked that I can tell she knows what she's saying. always. but I would prefer more tiny details. bring out the tiny moments, because that makes it more real (at least to me).
O: seemed rigid, I don't want to say stiff because it wasn't, just didn't seem settled.

I didn't critique Emily Cottam, but I would like to say that she seemed much more happy to be here the second time. It looked like she was singing because she loves to sing, not because it was her turn in VRH.
