Brooke's Recital Hour Critiques

Brooke's Recital Hour Critiques

Emily Hess-
Her diction was pretty good and her tone was bright and beautiful. I like her facial expression changes throughout her peice and I think she did a nice job she looked professional and knew her song. I feel at times that she is punching her high notes or over blowing. The way that I have learned how to avoid this actually came from Thomas Glenn. He taught me to put my high notes in the top back of my throat and to let my vocal chords stretch to get the high notes instead of pushing air through. This will also make your neck more relaxed. Her posture kind of collapsed her lungs and I feel like she had a hard time getting the amount of breath she needed.

Kayelee Farris- oh del mio mato ben
She had a very nice performance  even though you could tell she was nervous because her hands kept fidgeting. I really like her high notes but I feel the connection between her low range and high range could be improved. She just needed the constant air flow to make that happen. Her little mess up in the middle was only noticeable because she made a face. She seemed to have enough breath to last her long phrases and she was not grabbing for her breathes. It was overall very beautiful and I enjoyed it.

Jared Daley- Luck
He has a very powerful voice and I really enjoyed his low notes. His high notes sounded kind of nasally I feel as though his soft palate was not up during some his high notes. Also I wasn't completely convinced that he knew his piece was almost as though he was questioning his notes and that was portrayed through his song. But seriously his low notes were fantastic and resonated very well.  His second time through he seemed much more relaxed. He also had more expression the second time and I enjoyed his performance so much better.
