Shalayna G. NV 7

Summary:There needs to be a balance between efficiency of full sound and energy. Spontaneous combustion deals with the onset of sound. In normal spontaneity, there is a sense of unprepared action, but with spontaneous combustion, one must be prepared, open, and vulnerable. In order to achieve these concepts, one must be centered and open. Spontaneous combustion mainly focuses on learning to phonate so that the sound is presented in a healthy manner right from the beginning. Be careful with making exercises too rhythmic because the spontaneity will be lost. Beginning to sing correctly, will lead us to a balanced sound throughout the whole phrase. The [a] vowel helps to detect a balance or unbalanced sound. Spontaneous combustion is only useful with poise. By having the tongue and soft palate in the correction vowel position, we are free from supraglottal entanglement.
Key Concept: Spontaneous combustion requires preparation for a healthy onset sound.
Key Terms: Poise, Onset

Connection: I like how being free, clear and prepared were terms used to associate with spontaneity. There are few things that we can control when we are singing. Being ready and having an onset feeling is one of them. When we have a healthy start at singing, the chances of sustaining throughout the whole piece, is greater.
