Chapter 9 Summary-The sixth invention is a combination of the previous exercises and allows us to make a smooth transition from one part of our voice to another. In this exercise we start on a pitch low in our range and ascend up 11 notes on a major scale (going all the way to the fourth in the next octave). Then we descend down a dominant seventh chord ending on the pitch that we started on. The first four notes are sung on an [e] vowel. For the next four pitches are sung on an 'ah' vowel after which we switch to an [o] vowel for the remainder of the exercise. This exercise is effective because it allows us to practice smooth transition between our lower and upper range.
Key Concept- Singing this exercise allows us to develop more comfort in switching between the lower and upper part of our voice. We can sing much more healthily when we make this transition effortlessly
Key Terms-Getting High, Automatic Transmission, Head Voice, Chest Voice
Making Connections-I feel like the transition from one part of my voice to another is pretty obvious and difficult for me right now, so if this exercise will help me with that I definitely want to implement it.
