Sam Meredith SS Ch. 8 Summary

Sam
Chapter 8 Summary-Although no singer wants their voice to be wobbly it is important that each voice develops flexibility and the ability to navigate fast passages of music. This is the object of the fifth invention, which is known as the wobble. In this exercise we practice the change between two notes a perfect fourth away from each other. We sing on an 'ah' vowel and start with four quarter notes followed by a measure of 8 sixteenth notes ending with a quarter note on the lower note in the pair. After that we repeat the exercise a half step up, inverting the pitches, meaning that we start and end on the high note in the pair. Singing the notes and rhythm in this exercise correctly ensures flexibility without pinching the vocal folds together.
Key Concept-When we practice a wobble between two pitches a fourth away using a slower rhythm followed by a faster rhythm we can develop the necessary flexibility to navigate quickly moving music.
Key Terms-Wobble, Flexibility
Making Connections-I think using this exercise would be effective for me because it would help me develop the consistent airflow necessary for singing quick passages without putting unnecessary strain on my vocal folds.
