Taylee - MC 10/01/13

Amber Denslow:
B: Silent, but a breathy sound in the voice
I: Focused a lot on intervals instead of settling in the note. scooped into the tone.
T: There was a bit of tension in her shoulders. sounds like there is a sense of static.
D: good [k], needs a bit more enunciation elsewhere.
E: She always takes time to try and have a story in mind. It's very reasurring to the audience to know that there is
O: Don't make apologizes before you sing! It doesn't help your performance or our expectations. Confidence (even if its a "fake it till ya make it" kind), can really make the performance convincing!
H: Think tonally even if the song is atonal, so that there is at least some sort foundation for the singer to work from. When the scooping was addressed it fixed a lot of the timbre: sounded MUCH more speech like, breathy/static sound improved, words more easily pronounced.
Mariah Boyer:
B: shallow, could take advantage of long pauses more effectively
I: good tonal center, but onsets of some of the words are flat
T: very good resonance on dark a vowel and on open o. Sounds like the sound is sitting low instead of floating on the breath.
D: does very well with German
E: looks like she knows the emotion, but doesn't feel the emotion.
O: Has a good knowledge of piece, but can understand it more deeply than just know what the words mean.
H: Asked her to look for clues from the piano's accompaniment. When she focused more heavily on emotion, she lost a lot of tension in her sound that I didn't really notice being there until it wasn't. I liked that Cindy had her reiterate the take away's of the lesson.
Ben Shaw:
B: tight upper body in an attempt to have power
I:
T: tensed
D: great [k] at the ends of words
E:
O:He has a lovely voice, but he's manipulating it too much to try and make it be lovely.
