Sarah Brenay - Masterclass 10/15/13

Brooke Meyers:
Nice mix, creates a very strong clear timbre. The vibrato is very inconsistent, needs to start on onset. The text isn't coming through. Cindy's advice about aiming for the high note of every phrase helped the song sound more smooth and connected. Good work up there! It's not easy to take the leap of faith with high notes.

Leakin:
You gotta film yourself more often or sing in front of a mirror. There is a lot of extra body movement, knees bending, body swaying. Being grounded and properly aligned will give the voice and breath more security and will look stronger from the audience. Mouth is springing open nicely for the most part, but is more closed on i and I. Watch your mouth as you sing in a mirror. I think you would come in on time if you planned your breathing ahead, but we talked about this already. As a side note, I think that you generally sing better when you are dressed up. Just be aware that jeans affect your posture and presence while performing.

Emily Floyd:
Soft doesn't mean breathy! You can still sing with strength in p passages. Let your voice come through fully. Some really tender moments in this piece. Can I just I love having your around more this year? You are wonderful. We talked the other day about imagining the upper teeth are springing upwards when you open your mouth. I think this will help your jaw to not be pressed down and the sound to not fall back. When Cindy helped you with speech it made a great difference! Applying your speech to the voice helped the sound and the connection so much! Wonderful.
