Sarah Boucher SS Introduction to Inventions Summary
Chapter Summary: Classical singing is finding the balance between the light and the dark in our voices. We should strive to find the perfect blend of each element, our chiaroscuro. Smith's inventions help to discover this balance. Speech is an important aspect of finding our naked voice and it has four qualifiers: projection, line, define vowels and a focus on our whole instrument.
Key Points:
-We do need muscular effort in singing but we want it to be efficient
-"Free resonance is mostly upward space"
Key Terms:
-Chiaroscuro
Making Connections: I really liked what Smith said about how we need muscular effort but we want it to be efficient. Often, I find myself using muscles when I sing that I don't need to be employing. This is where awareness is key! I want to focus on isolating those muscles and eliminating any tension that is not needed.
